Description
Aromatic butter chicken brings together tender chicken pieces marinated in yogurt and simmered in a rich, spiced sauce, creating a comforting and flavorful Indian dish.

- 600 g chicken breast (diced)
- 150 g natural yogurt
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 onion (chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tbsp grated ginger
- 400 g crushed tomatoes
- 150 ml cream (or coconut milk for a lactose-free option)
- 1 tsp sugar
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken by mixing all marinade ingredients in a bowl and let it sit for at least 30 minutes, ideally overnight.
- Heat the oil in a pan and fry the marinated chicken until golden brown for about 6-8 minutes. Remove the chicken and set it aside.
- Melt the butter in the same pan, add the chopped onion, and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and ginger and sauté for an additional minute.
- Mix in the spices (turmeric, cumin, garam masala, and paprika) and then pour in the crushed tomatoes. Let it simmer for 10 minutes.
- Add cream and sugar, and simmer for another 5 minutes. Adjust salt to taste.
- Return the chicken to the pan, mix well, and allow to simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- Serve by garnishing with fresh cilantro and enjoy with basmati rice or naan.
Notes
For more flavor, marinate the chicken overnight. You can replace chicken with turkey or tofu as per your preference.
